Eric picked them up at the train station about an hour away. They arrived early Friday morning and were to our house just as we were finishing breakfast. Sophia was a little leery of the new faces, but Mari encouraged her along.

Great-Grandma and Grandma came to town! Day 1
We had the absolute honor and delight of having Eric's mom and grandmother come all the way out to visit us a few weeks ago (yes I'm that behind!). It really was such a grand visit, one that we will all remember forever. They came all this way by train, and we were so happy they did. I took hundreds of pictures (not an exaggeration, thanks to digital cameras), and here will share, day by day, some of my favorites that will help tell the story.

After a time of rest, we packed into the van (thank You, God, for a vehicle that can accommodate guests!) and headed to the local Mennonite bakery. Sophia enjoyed having Great-Grandma's attention and warmed up to her really fast.
The bakery is located near the closest Amish community. The buggies are always fun to see.
The bakery has a huge porch to show off the selection of Amish made outside furniture. It's also a great place for visitors to relax. We took about ten photos of the kids, and this is the only one that looks remotely good. Who knows what Mari is trying to do, but at least Sophia's not screaming.
Grandma treated us to a doughnuts and Great-Grandma treated us to ice cream!
During afternoon naps, Joshy, Sophia (who took an earlier nap than the rest), and I enjoyed the outdoors. There is no place near our house to go for long walks, so we settle for walking to get the mail (which is actually pretty far) and doing circles in the driveway. Works for us!
When Great-Grandma did wake up, she did so with enough energy to take on Joshy in one-on-one!
Not too many little boys can say they've played basketball with their Great-Grandma.
When we asked Joshy how it went, he told us, "Great-Grandma doesn't make a lot of shots, but she tries hard."
Point totals aside, you have to respect anyone over the age of 80 who can still shoot hoops!
